Shelter dinner in Memory of Bijan Ghaisar
Date: November 23, 2024
This month shelter dinner is sponsored by the Ghaisar family.
This month shelter dinner is dedicated in the memory and honor of our beloved Bijan Ghaisar.
Thanks to the generosity of the Ghaisar family, they will be donating the care packages for the shelter this year.
We are currently trying to raise money by 12/17/2024 to fund our annual Gifts of Joy project. This year, your Gifts of Joy Donation will go to support food insecure families. We are proud to partner with Yellow Boomerang in feeding over 1000 families. These families will each receive a holiday meal kit to feed six people. Your donation will give 6,000 people a home cooked meal this holiday season. If you are interested in contributing, click here.

Tips for new volunteers
- Volunteers must remain in the kitchen and are not allowed in the main area of the shelter
- If you are serving, please do not bring friends along unless you have discussed it with one of Dast2Dast organizers
- Please do not give money to residents
- Also do not give your contact information to residents
- Please eat before coming to the shelter as leftover of our food will be served to the residents the next day
- If you bring your pots and pans, you are responsible for collecting them before leaving the shelter
- If you do not want to wear hair nets, bring a cap to wear
- Gloves provided by the shelter must be worn at all times
- If you have any questions, ask one of the organizers, Desiree, Anna, Farhang or Mehrdad
- If you are running late, please call the organizer
- Please recycle as much as possible as supplies of the shelter are donated and limited
- You are more than welcome to bring any additional supplies for the kitchen of the shelter (e.g.: foam plates and bowls, plastic knives, forks and spoons, canned food, non-perishable food for the pantry, etc.)
- The shelter warmly welcomes donation of clothing and shoes that are clean and re-wearable. You can drop off your donations during shelter events. Click here for more info on donating.
Do you have this in San Francisco too if you do let me know where is it we would like to help there are lots of people need help here and lots of old people in San Mateo area if you can do any thing here we would like to help I got your info from Facebook.
Dear Jinous, we are a local charity organization and operate in Northern Virginia. So, no, we do not have shelter dinner events in California/San Francisco. However, I will email you and let you know how you can setup something similar with your friends and family members. When I first started hosting shelter dinners in 2006, I contacted a few friends and family members and was able to interest 4 in total who helped me feed about 60 homeless individuals. We grew to what we are today by word of mouth. I will email you shortly.
Same question for Toronto Canada
Hi Nikki,
as mentioned above, we are doing this locally and have shelter dinner events only in Virginia.
Hi Desiree jan,
My name is Naghmeh and I would love to volunteer at your next available opportunity. Is there a way to sign up now or be on a wait list?
Thank you.
Dear Naghmeh, I added your email address to our mailing list and you will be receiving an email when future shelter dinners are scheduled. If you have an account on Facebook, please join our Dast2Dast group so that you’re also notified about and invited to the events. Looking forward to meeting you!
Thank you Desiree jan! I will join the Facebook group too.

BTW, I got your information from Kaveh and Maryam Sadri and Kelly Ghaisar.
Wonderful!

My 3 boys, Darian, Ryan and Cyrus will be there serving. Thanks you
Excellent!
HI there,
We signed up to bring the lasagnas and we were wondering is there an oven to cook them or heat them up as we will be driving in and don’t want to serve cold lasagna.
Thank you
Dear Ramin, you will need to bring cooked lasagnas to the shelter. There is not enough time and there are not enough ovens to cook food in the kitchen of the shelter. The ovens will be set on warm settings to keep the food warm until serving time.
Also, please note that each food item/ each signup slot is for one adult, or one adult plus one minor. We only have you signed up for the lasagnas and no other food items. Please refrain from bringing someone (an adult) who has not signed up as there is limited room in the kitchen of the shelter. The kitchen of the shelter is very small and when too many people show up, it becomes very hard to move and do any work. If you are bringing a minor, you will need to contact Desiree and provide the full name and age of the minor, so that we can get authorization from the shelter beforehand.
For more information, please contact Desiree at http://d2dinc.org/contact-us/ as the comment section of our website is not monitored in a timely fashion.
Thank you for joining us, for your kindness and support!
